HOUR HISTORY

From the Start

The story of Ekurhuleni Center for Orphans and Vulnerable Children begins not with funding or fame—but with love, loss, and a calling to serve.

Born from the compassion of community leaders who saw the silent suffering of children left behind by poverty, disease, and abandonment, the Center opened its doors with one mission: to be a place of hope where no child feels forgotten.

In the early days, there was no big building—just a borrowed space, a few donated meals, and open arms. But what we lacked in resources, we made up for in heart. With the support of kind-hearted individuals and the belief that every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment, Ekurhuleni began to grow—one child, one meal, one miracle at a time.

Over the years, the Center has become a cornerstone in Acornhoek, known by the community as “The House of Help.” Through after-school programs, daily meals, emotional support, and educational outreach, we’ve stood in the gap for children who would otherwise be left without guidance or care.

We are more than a charity—we are a family.
And our history is still being written, one act of kindness at a time.

THE STEPS

Our Commitment

1

The Beginning

It all started with a deep awareness of the need around us. A few compassionate hearts came together, refusing to ignore the children who were going to bed hungry, unprotected, and without a voice. With little more than hope and heart, Ekurhuleni was born

2

Settling

As support slowly grew, so did our space and our systems. We began to formalize our daily operations—ensuring children received consistent meals, care, after-school support, and emotional healing. We created structure where there was once chaos.

3

Production

With our foundation solid, we turned our focus to sustainability. We introduced skills training, creative arts, and local partnerships—empowering not only the children but the wider community. From food gardens to talent showcases, our aim was to produce more than support

4

Today

Today, Ekurhuleni stands tall as The House of Help—a beacon of hope for hundreds of children. We are rooted in love, strengthened by service, and driven by the belief that a better South Africa begins with how we care for our most vulnerable. And while the challenges remain, our commitment is stronger than ever.
